BSIS Guard Card Training Course
The BSIS Guard Card Training Course is the mandatory entry-level program required for individuals pursuing a career as a licensed security guard in California. This state-certified course covers the foundational skills needed to work in the private security industry and prepares students to obtain their California Guard Card through the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).
Training includes 4 hours of "Powers to Arrest" instruction and 4 hours of "Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness," with an option to complete the additional 32 hours of required continuing education through Overwatch Defense International. All instruction is delivered by certified trainers with military, law enforcement, and private security experience. CPR, First Aid, and Tactical Medicine add-ons are also available.

Yes. The timely submission of a signed Release and Waiver of Liability is absolutely mandatory for participation in any ODI training course.
Given the inherently high-risk nature of the subject matter — including, but not limited to, the use of firearms, live training exercises, and tactical movement — no individual will be permitted to attend or engage in course activities without a fully completed and signed waiver on file.
Participants are required to submit their executed waiver no less than twenty-four (24) hours prior to the scheduled course commencement.
⚠️ Failure to meet this requirement will result in the automatic forfeiture of your registration and course fee. No exceptions shall be granted. No refunds shall be issued.
This policy is in place to protect the safety of all participants, instructors, and the integrity of the training environment.
We urge all attendees to complete and submit the waiver as soon as it is received to ensure full compliance and eligibility.

Firearms & Gear
Not necessarily. Our instructors tailor the training to your skill level, whether you’re a beginner or looking to sharpen advanced tactics.
It depends on the course:
- For Intro to Firearms, you are not required to bring your own firearm. ODI will provide a training firearm for you to use during the session.
- For all other firearms courses, you are required to bring your own firearm in good working condition.
Participants are responsible for ensuring their firearm is:
- Compliant with California law
- In safe, functional condition
- Transported lawfully and securely

Yes — all necessary ammunition is included in your course fee.
ODI maintains a limited supply of loaner protective gear. If needed, we will provide you with appropriate eye and ear protection for the duration of training.

Closed-toe shoes (boots or athletic footwear)
